Alabama State Games canceled due to pandemic
DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the ASF Foundaton has made the decision to cancel the 2020 Alabama State Games.
The games were set to take place in the Wiregrass for the first time since 2017.
Officials with the games said the cancellation came on the advise of its medical director stating it would be impossible to keep athletes, families, and officials safe due to the pandemic. This had to do with over 4,000 athletes taking part in games at 30 different venues in three different counties in the Wiregrass.
Dean Kelly, director of the Alabama State Games, is appreciative of the support he’s received from Wiregrass officials and is thrilled to bring the games back to the area in 2021 and 2022.
