On July 7th, Dothan City Schools announced their road-map to reopening schools under COVID-19.

Dothan City School teachers will begin August 11th, 2020 and students will start on August 17th, 2020.

DCS will offer parents a dual instruction approach, traditional, and remote/virtual. Parents can either choose to send their children to school in a traditional model or keeping them at home to engage in virtual or remote learning.

If parents choose the virtual approach, students will be enrolled from the start of school to the end of the first 9 weeks. After that time they can either choose to continue in the virtual approach or change to traditional.

Elementary: Remote Learning- Students will engage in DCS classroom teachers everyday. Students will complete assignments through Google Classroom.

Secondary: Virtual Program- Students will use Edgenuity for the virtual program. Edgenuity will work with the district team to provide students with courses and optimal learning.

Traditional Learning: The school day will follow the regular schedule including all core classes and other subjects but with a return to a traditional setting calls for changes to keep students and staff safe and healthy.

Students are required to practice social distancing by limiting group gatherings, signs will be posted around campus to urge the use of hand-washing, hand sanitizer will be available around campus, cleaning methods will be increased, students/staff encouraged to have masks/face coverings on campus, students and staff should expect symptom screening, any and all students/staff who have symptoms should not be at school or workplace.

Busses will be cleaned in between runs and be disinfected at the end of each day.

Principals of each DCS school are working on their own individual school plans to be posted sometime later this week.

Dr. Edwards has provided an instructional video on the website on how students and staff will return to either a traditional or virtual learning setting.

The 24 page plan along with a website explaining the process of reopening will provide all the information for schools, parents and students for the 2020-2021 school year.
