DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -Jeff Coleman will debate opponent Barry Moore in a televised event before next month’s congressional runoff, Coleman’s campaign manager promised on Thursday.

“Absolutely,” said Dalton Dismukes. That came only hours after Moore issued a statement accusing Coleman of refusing to debate.

“Coleman has backed out of every single opportunity,” Moore said in a statement that specifically claims his opponent withdrew from a debate in Covington County planned next week.

Speaking to the Houston County Republican Women's group, Dismukes said Coleman iss willing to debate Moore. Dismukes stood in for his boss, who attended another event.

Both Coleman and Moore have suffered a lack of exposure due to the coronavirus pandemic. Because of health concerns, Governor Ivey moved the runoff until July 14. The are seeking the Republican nomination for the seat now held by Rep. Martha Roby (R-Montgomery), who is not seeking re-election.

While Coleman and Moore have recently resumed in-person events, they are speaking mostly to only small groups.

WTVY is working to finalize the debate, tentatively scheduled the week of July 6.
