A local group of volunteers is keeping the water safe this summer.
The Houston County Rescue Squad is made up of dedicated citizens.
The group of certified divers responds when needed.
The president of the squad, Wayne McKinnon says their most common call is drownings.
That's why they need the community's attention to be on a few things.
First, make sure you check out the weather forecast before getting on or in the water.
Also, some may say life jackets get in the way of things but it could save your life.
"The farm ponds and the lakes and reservoirs that are prevalent out here give us a little more attention than we need. That's why we wanting to let people know, wearing a life preserver is a life and death matter and it is your life,” Tim Jordan said.
Now there are only twelve certified scuba divers.
