DOTHAN -- Thousands of people gathered at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine to support breast cancer awareness. Each person who took a lap Saturday morning at the Sandi McCool Champions of Hope breast cancer walk either was a survivor or has a loved one fighting the disease.
Participants could walk, run or cycle to raise money and awareness for the disease. Event coordinators hope the walk raises about $200,000. All of the proceeds from the walk stay in the Wiregrass, and help the men and women who might not be able to afford the necessary treatments or help through the journey.
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. This is why doctors strongly encourage every person to continue his or her check-ups.
