The Okaloosa-Walton Medical Examiner’s Office says a forensic autopsy has positively identified the victim of Saturday’s fatal plane crash in North Okaloosa County as 64-year old John Edward Coleman of 6678 Bill Lundy Road in Laurel Hill.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash that took place in a heavily wooded area around 3 p.m. August 23rd near Steel Mill Road.

The Okaloosa-Walton Medical Examiner’s Office says a forensic autopsy will be needed to positively identify the remains of a pilot who died in a single engine plane crash near Laurel Hill Saturday.
The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash that took place around 3 p.m. August 23rd near Steel Mill Road.

First responders, including the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, and firefighters, have responded to a report of a downed small, single engine plane in North Okaloosa County.

A 9-1-1 call came in shortly after 3 p.m. this afternoon reporting that a plane had gone down on the east side of Steel Mill Road in an area near Laurel Hill that contains swampland between the site of the crash and the road.

The crash has been confirmed and the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified.

Additional details will be released at the appropriate time.
