BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Birmingham police say the cause of a fire that displaced dozens of people on Christmas Eve has been ruled as arson.
Reports say suspect was in custody Tuesday. American Red Cross spokesman Chris Osborne says up to 40 people may have been displaced from the Uptown Apartments.
The Red Cross has established a temporary shelter at the Greater Shiloh Baptist Church, and Osborne says many residents are also staying with family and friends.
Aside from blankets, the Red Cross distributed hot coffee and food after the blaze Tuesday. City officials were also on hand dropping off toys for children who live in the building.
The suspect's identity and details on a potential motive were no immediately available.
