Warming shelter staff recognized by city commission

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - A tribute was given to several warming shelter staff members at Tuesday's commission meeting.

Mayor Mike Saliba and commission members thanked them for opening their doors when temperatures drop.
They also acknowledged the fact of how quickly the community comes together in a time of need.
Kody Kirchhoff with the Harbor says the community's outreach is unlike any other.

Kirchhoff says:
"It's been the city, the police department, the fire department...the city themselves coming together and so I think that's an entire city recognition to say hey here in Dothan, Alabama, we care for lives, we care for reaching lives that maybe society sometimes forgets about but the city isn't going to forget about those people."

Warming shelter leaders say this year's cold weather has promoted them to open more shelters.
