DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Troy University, in partnership with the Wiregrass Blues Society, introduced Dothan students to education in blues.
With some help from Vanessa Collier, a blues saxophonist and vocalist, the kids were taken back in time!
Vanessa was nominated for 2017 and 2018 blues music awards by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, Tennessee. The purpose of the event is to introduce the students to new music and culture.
“We’re exposing probably 90-95% of these kids to something they would never be exposed to in their life! Hopefully it'll give them a spark and show them another avenue,” said Wiregrass Blues Society board member Terry Duffy.
The event was held at the Dothan Opera House.
