Troy Football excited about 2016 recruiting class

TROY, AL - (WTVY-TV) TROY, Alabama – Troy football head coach Neal Brown and his staff signed one of the highest-rated classes in school history, as 18 student-athletes inked with the Trojans on Wednesday. Troy’s class, which consists of 25 players with the mid-year signees, is ranked second in the Sun Belt Conference by 247 Sports and is littered with some of the top players in the state of Alabama and the South.

“I am really excited about the 2016 signing class, which is the first full class that we had an opportunity to recruit,” Brown said. “All of the student-athletes we signed today fit into the process we have in place when it comes to football, academics and character. I am extremely proud of our coaching and recruiting staff for the hard work and long hours they put in to make this class come together. We made recruiting our home state our top priority, and signing 15 players from Alabama is a testament to the outstanding high school coaches and programs we have in this state.”

The class features several players rated among the best in the nation and state at their position. Defensive end Kelvin Lucky out of Edgewood Academy (Ala.) leads the way as he is tabbed the number two defensive end in the state of Alabama by Scout and a top-50 defensive end in the country by 247 Sports.

Opelika (Ala.) High School bandit/linebacker Zo Bridges is rated as one of the top 25 players in the state and top 50 outside linebackers in the country by 247 Sports, while Carrollton (Ga.) High School offensive lineman Tristan Crowder is rated as one of the top 100 offensive tackles in the country by 247 Sports. Millbrook, Ala., standout B.J. Smith from Stanhope Elmore High School came in as the 21st best all-purpose back in the country and a top-40 player in the state by 247 Sports, while Auburn (Ala.) High School’s Michael Robinson is rated as the sixth-best defensive tackle in the state by Scout.

The class features 20 high school players and five from the junior college ranks, with 15 hailing from Alabama, four from Georgia, three from Florida, two from Mississippi and one from Texas.
