DOTHAN, AL (WTVY) Thousands of people are expected at the Dothan Civic Center Friday and Saturday nights for the Miss National Peanut Festival Pageant.
Staff is already preparing to handle the mass crowds.
But, the question is… will there be tighter security?
The answer is yes.
A total of 39 young ladies are set to compete in this year’s pageant.
According to Dothan Civic Center Director Marshall Perry, close to 2,500 people will pack the arena for the competition.
Perry says security is always a big focus for the venue no matter the event. He says there will be added security in place for the contestants. Additional safety measures will also be implemented for audience members.
Perry says he’ll have about 20 to 25 security officers on site.
“We take care to watch all the entrances and exits, watch the crowd all during the event,: said Perry. "And, we will have uniformed and non-uniformed security personnel in the building. You may have somebody sitting next to you that you’re not aware of the fact that they are a security person because they remain incognito until they are called to go into action.”
Perry also recommends if you’re going to the pageant to get there early.
Security personnel will be at every entry door. Just like normal, he says be sure to leave any questionable items - like noisemakers - in your vehicle.
The Miss National Peanut Festival Pageant Preliminaries will be held on Friday night at 6:00 pm. The Finals are scheduled for Saturday evening at 6:00 pm.
You can get tickets at the Dothan Civic Center Box Office. Doors will open at 5:00 pm.
The Little Miss Peanut Festival Pageant will be held in two weeks at the Dothan Civic Center.
