COTTONDALE, Fla (WTVY) - A Cottondale teenager could be charged as an adult in the death of a family member.

Daniel Pate, 17, is charged with one count of murder with the department of Juvenile Justice Detention.
The shooting happened Monday afternoon off of Veteran Road, north west of Cottondale.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says family members reported a gunshot.

Deputies found Daniel Pate's uncle, Michael Pate, 55, dead outside of the home.

The family told authorities the teenager was armed and had taken the victim’s car.

After a BOLO was put out, Pate called the sheriff's office and turned himself in from Bethlehem Church. He was arrested without any problems.

Sheriff Lou Roberts expects the State Attorney will charge Pate as an adult.
