Students roll up their sleeves to paint school's new picnic tables

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (WTVY) - Students in Dale County rolled up their sleeves this afternoon and got to work!

More than a dozen fourth graders at Midland City Elementary School stained twelve of the school's new picnic tables. The school received a $1,500 anniversary grant from the Elks Lodge in Dothan.

Dale County school board member Priscilla McKnight says this project is the start of many more improvements coming to the school.

"They recognized there was a need here and they got a grant approved for these picnic tables, which allows these children to come outside under the pavilion to sit and gather for various activities."

The elementary school is expected to start construction on a gymnasium in 2018.
