Students put tablets down for Global School Play Day

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - It wasn't your ordinary day at school for students at Highlands Elementary School on Wednesday.

The students put away their tablets and other electronic devices for Global School Play Day.

The idea came from a Ted Talk about how today's kids are growing up differently than generations past.

Highlands’ kindergarten teacher Brittney Patten says sometimes, too much technology can have a negative impact on behavior and social skills.

"Some children are not able to have a conversation with you. But, if you hand them a tablet or cell phone, they can work it better than you can. That's a problem,” said Patten. “Technology is great, but it's great when it's used in a useful way, such as for education."
