DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - A special class was held at Girard Elementary School in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Mrs. Kecia Evans gave a special presentation to her fifth grade class Friday afternoon.
The presentation highlighted the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King and how her students can be the difference for the future.
She used relevant vocabulary words such as Jim Crow Laws and Mahatma Ghandi to tell Martin Luther King's story.
One lesson she wanted to be sure the children learned -- that Dr. King was inspired in his youth to make a difference.
“Today just using those vocabulary words.. and linking them to Dr. King.. and then ending with letting them know that Dr. King was inspired in his youth, not in his adulthood but his youth.. and if we can inspire them in their youth to make changes, then it’ s been all worth it.”
