Souper Bowl Can Food Drive kicks off Friday

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -- Every month seniors are excited to receive a brown bag from the Wiregrass Food Bank.

This program is a way to get together for fellowship and a free meal.

Carrie B Kirkland says she always enjoys receiving a Brown Bag and is grateful for this program. "It’s wonderful for elder people and anybody else because it’s so many people that don't have food in their homes and that's what were for to try to help each other."

Sometimes seniors just aren't able to afford the groceries they need to eat healthy.

That’s why this week, the Wiregrass Food Bank is also hosting a Souper Bowl can drive.

This drive is important during the winter months because what better way to keep warm than a hot bowl of soup.

The brown bag program feeds thousands of seniors but they couldn't do it without the public's help and that's why they need donations of canned goods to make it all possible.

The Souper Bowl Can Drive starts Friday at North side Walmart in Dothan at 9am and goes until 6 pm.

So if you're out shopping drop off a can or two.
