Salvation Army kicks off holiday season

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Christmas is 46 days away, but it's never too early for the Salvation Army in Dothan to start preparing.

The organization had their "Angel Tree and Red Kettle kick-off" on Thursday. From now until December 23rd, 17 red kettles will be placed throughout the Wiregrass.

The angel tree is up, with around 1,000 names of children who need clothing and toys this holiday season. Last year, the Salvation Army raised more than $100,000!

This year, they're hoping to raise $125,000.

"We help children and families who cannot afford to have a Christmas,” said Captain Chris Bryant with the Salvation Army. “I have two daughters and that is something I couldn't imagine. It's just a way for us to help out and make sure that's another need that is being met."

The angel tree is located by the food court at Wiregrass Commons Mall.
