DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - The second annual New Year's Downtown Countdown will be take place Sunday-- rain or shine.

City officials and construction crews began the set up process Friday, which includes getting a crane in place -- and of course getting the giant peanut ready.

In addition to basic preparations for the lowering of the peanut, there will be lot closures happening downtown that residents should be aware of.

"So we got all these things that have to be done so one of the most important thing is for us to remind the public that as of 5:00 today (Friday) this parking lot here at the clock tower is going to be closed and that is for safety reasons only. We have a lot of equipment that's gonna be coming in this weekend to get everything ready for Sunday."
