PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG) - For Panama City residents, it might be a while before you can grab a Chick-fil-A sandwich for lunch.
An early morning fire means the Chick-fil-A on 23rd Street in Panama City will be closed on more than just Sunday this week.
A little after 7 a.m. Thursday, Panama City Fire Department responded to the call at Chick-fil-A with reports of heavy smoke in the area.
The fire is still under investigation, however officials said at the moment it appears to have started with an air conditioning unit on top of the building.
"The fire burned its way down through the roof and into the suspended ceiling area and really got a lot of the duct work on fire," Panama City Police Chief Alex Baird said. "Once we got that out, the fire was under control. There was no real damage to the restaurant itself as far as the dining area, the cooking area and the cooking equipment."
Officials said no one was hurt in the fire and repair crews are on their way.
Management said they hope to be back serving chicken biscuits and waffle fries as soon as possible.
