FORT RUCKER, Ala. (WTVY) - Officials broke ground on a new, more than $40,000,000 elementary school at Fort Rucker on Tuesday.
Currently there are two schools on post. The primary school educates children from kindergarten through second grade and the elementary school houses third through sixth grade students.
The new two story facility will combine both schools and be home to nearly 800 students.
"This really makes us one community,” said Principal Vicki Gilmer. “Fort Rucker is truly above the best but we are separate- different goals, different strategies, the vocabulary and the language. This gives us an opportunity to combine our efforts and talents into one mission for our kids."
The school is expected to be complete in the fall of 2019.
