Dothan (WTVY)-- A man is accused of arson after he allegedly set fire to a Dothan home that was destroyed. Police say Mikal Mongoven, charged with arson, is also responsible for damage to a neighboring home.

Mug shot from Houston County Jail.

“Our investigation shows some type of accelerant was used to set fire to the home on Westfield Drive December 26,” Dothan Police Department Investigator Anthony McClendon told WTVY. He said nobody was home at the time.

Before flames were controlled by firefighters they spread next door causing damage. Two people asleep inside escaped without injury after they were alerted by a neighbor who was awakened by a barking dog.

McClendon said the crime appears domestic related. “Mr. Mongoven was in a relationship with a lady who was dating the victim at the time of the fire and an ongoing domestic disagreement appears to be the motive,” he said.

McClendon said Mongoven, sought for several weeks, was recently arrested in West Virginia on unrelated charges. He was later extradited to Dothan.

He posted bond and was released from jail.
