DOTHAN, AL (WTVY) -- We're getting a taste of Winter in the Wiregrass as we head into January. Here's what you can do to prepare for a cold snap.

Brandon Outlaw, the Operations Manager and a Mechanic at Jim Whaley Tires says that there's plenty people need to take care of when it comes to their cars for the Winter.

He says "Well obviously, in South Alabama, we don't deal with that as much as you would in the Northern states. But you know, checking the fluids the anti-freeze, you know, tires, air pressure and wiper blades things of that nature would be the things you would want to work, to have looked at."

Don' forget to also take your home into consideration as well.

Edward Bogar, the Assistant General Manager of a Dothan Lowes says these are some of the things you can do to keep your home warm.

He said "One of the things you can do is actually make sure you have an abundance amount of insulation in your attic... But if you're running a kerosene heaters, make sure your propane tanks are filled."

If you have pets outside make sure to bring them in and also keep your plants covered as the low temperatures continue into the next week.
