HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) — The Houston County Commission has entered into an agreement with a local law firm should major drug companies be sued for damages relating to the opioid crisis.

Many counties across the country have filed suit against pharmaceutical companies.

Houston County picked Prim & Mendheim to represent them if a settlement is reached in a future lawsuit.

This step doesn’t necessarily mean Houston county will join any of the cases.

The move just makes it so that if a settlement is reached the law firm would go to bat for the county, making sure if funds become available, Houston County would get a share.

Those possible settlement funds would go towards things such as awareness programs and helping law enforcement.
