DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — In just four months the Houston County Democratic Party organized a large candidate forum in Dothan.
The momentum came from Senator Doug Jones' victory over Republican Roy Moore back in December.
The forum included democrats running for Alabama governor, House of Representatives District 85 and 86, State Attorney General, and Secretary of State.
Vice-chairman Hunter Brannon says they're hoping to copy the results from the senate election this time around.
He says, "We started an event to bring in the several state wide and local candidates. We saw that with Doug Jones we were very successful in getting out the vote once those candidates come here and meet people.”
“It gives them a reason to get out, it gives them hope that they have a chance of winning, and when we did that what we saw with the Senate election was counties that went anywhere from 20 or more points in Trumps favor only went five or six points in favor of Roy Moore, with that being said, also three counties went blue for the first time in decades, so we're hoping to replicate that with these candidates," said Brannon.
