DOTHAN, AL (WTVY) The Houston County Commission has officially approved their 2017 – 2018 fiscal budget.
The Commission approved a 3% pay raise for full-time Houston County employees. There will be a 25-cent increase for part time county employees. They also voted to allocate $3 million for purchases like new vehicles for the Sheriff's Office, Coroner and the Road & Bridge Department. Money will be used to also purchase security cameras for Community Corrections.
The county estimates they’ll receive $39 million in revenue next fiscal year - the majority coming from property taxes. $280,000 will come from internet sales tax from Amazon purchases.
“We’re starting the new year with a nice fund balance and as usual, we’re able to maintain some funds, in this case close to five million dollars in the event of certain events such as hurricanes and tornadoes," said Bill Dempsey, Chief Administrative Officer, Houston County. "So, overall we’re in good shape.”
The Commission also approved a $500,000 Houston County Courthouse renovation project. That project will begin in the Fall.
