Birmingham (WTVY)-- Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman is recovering from heart bypass surgery, according to a Facebook post by his brother.
“After routine physical and subsequent procedures, Don required by-pass surgery (Friday). He looks very good for what he went through and is making a rapid recovery. He is in CVICU recovery today and tomorrow (Saturday and Sunday) in Birmingham. He required four by-passes to fix 90% blockage in the ‘Widow Maker’. Doctors said he could have died in his sleep. They anticipate a rapid and full recovery.” Les Siegelman wrote.
After serving a six-year prison term for bribery and obstruction of justice, Don Siegelman was released from a federal prison one year ago. Many supporters believe his conviction was politically motivated.
He served as governor from 1999 until 2003. He previously served as secretary of state, lieutenant governor, and attorney general.
