DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Mardi Gras weekend in the Wiregrass kicked off with a bang!
Dothan's annual Mardi Gras parade took place from 2-4 p.m. Saturday.
Traditionally, Mardi Gras is the celebration period before the fasting season of Lent and is typically honored by a party or parade.
Hundreds of people came from all over the Wiregrass to enjoy the custom floats.. catch some beads.. eat some moon pies.. and just spend time with loved ones.
"Um this is our second year.. Shelby Kates first year for Dothan.. We have been to Mobile, Panama City, we've been to St. Andrew, and New Orleans for Mardi Gras..but this is home so we are here with the babies celebrating and spending family time." -- Kathy Richards, Parade Goer
In addition to providing family fun, the parade is also part of a fundraising effort from the Krew of Kolosse. And this year the group will donate to Camp Sugarfalls, a summer camp for children with diabetes.
