Distillery possibly making its mark in Troy

TROY, Ala. (AP) -- The city of Troy is one step closer to getting a multi-million dollar whisky distillery.

Tuesday, the City Council approved the motion to allow Mayor Jason Reeves to continue negations with Conecuh Ridge Distillery.

The initial plan calls for the city to buy a $1.6 million dollar, 76 acre piece of property on Trojan Way off U.S. Highway 231.

Mayor Reeves said the distillery would be a big tourism attraction that could bring in people from all over the country.

Some concerns included spending taxpayers' money to promote the business and increasing alcohol consumption in the city.

The distillery would be located about 10 miles from Troy University.
