Defuniak Springs welcomes home remains of WWII Veteran

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (WTVY) - Nearly 76 years after his death, Lt. Ewart T. Sconiers has been returned home!

The DeFuniak Springs native served in World War II as a crew member on a B-17 Flying Fortress. Lt. Sconiers died while a Prisoner of War and was buried in Poland.

His grave location was lost in the fog of war. but in 2016, Lt Sconiers’ grave was located and his remains were exhumed and identified.

On Friday, a parade was held along the street of Downtown Defuniak Springs to honor his return.
