City of Ozark moves forward with idea of building community pool

OZARK, Ala. (WTVY) — Following in the footsteps of Opp Mayor John Bartholomew, Ozark Mayor Bob Bunting is pushing forward with the idea of a community pool.

"There are so many young people in this town who do not have access to a swimming pool," said Bunting.

One of Mayor Bunting's top initiatives throughout his campaign was a public pool. Now, with the support of the community behind him, Mayor Bunting is moving to secure funds and bids for a new community pool, club house and fence.

"Ozark, in the past we had two swimming pools, but with time, they became to the point where they needed to be filled in, because they were not cost effective," said Bunting.

Much like the city of Opp, $ 450,000 is hoped to be raised through private donations.

"If Opp can build a swimming pool out of public money, hey folks, this is your town, this would be your swimming pool, come on, help out," said Bunting.

The pool would be used for recreation, education, and rehabilitation.

Mayor Bunting says he hopes to have the pool completed by June 2018.
