Americans to spend over $9 billion on Halloween in 2017

(NBC News Channel) - It's October and that means Halloween is right around the corner.

According to this year's annual survey by the National Retail Federation, 179 million Americans plan to partake in Halloween festivities, and will spend a record $9.1 billion dollars.

Most of that money will be spent on costumes, followed by candy, decorations and greeting cards.

Consumers are expected to spend an average of $86.13.
