Alabamians expected to spend more than ever on holiday shopping

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — The Alabama Retail Federation hopes you'll follow Joseph Bracken’s lead this holiday season.

"We do a lot of our shopping at our local boutiques here in Dothan."

The agency kicked off its "Shop Alabama for the Holidays" campaign in Dothan Thursday.

Melissa Warnke with the Alabama Retail Federation says, “It’s to remind people the importance of spending your shopping dollars locally."

The campaign encourages people to shop at locally-owned shops like Naomi and Olive in downtown Dothan.

"When you shop Alabama you support your friends and your neighbors strengthen locally economy and you invest in the vibrancy of things like this,” added Warnke.

Alabamians are expected to spend a record $11,500,000 this holiday shopping season and local retailers want to get a piece of the pie.
