(FITNESS FIRST) Hi, my name is Dana Cody and I’m one of the personal trainers here at Xtreme Health and Fitness and today I want to talk to you about one of my favorite topics, and that’s running.
If I’m going to tell you how to start a running program, I’m not going to tell you to get out and just run your fastest for as long as you can. I’m going to get you to get on a treadmill, and we’re going to start off with about 30 seconds at a time. You’re going to run for 30 seconds - that may even be a slow jog, and then I’m going to slow down and walk for 30 seconds. The better I get, the more I can extend my run and then I can go 30 seconds, I can go 45 seconds, and I can go a minute. Before I know it, I’ll have run 20 minutes, maybe even 30 and my endurance will progress. Doing this safely, you can do it 2 or 3 times a week. Alternate your days, don’t go back to back, make sure you stretch, and cool down, drink plenty of water, and have a great pair of shoes that will help reduce impact.
So remember whether you’re outside in the street, or the park, or on a treadmill… be safe, be hydrated, and always remember to keep fitness first.
