4 cases of rabies confirmed in Houston County

HOUSTON COUNTY -- (WTVY) 4 cases of rabies have already been confirmed in Houston County this year.
That's according to the Houston County Health Department.
A raccoon found September 2nd found on Ready Road in Houston County has been tested and found to be positive for the disease.
Alabama law requires all dogs and cats 3 months of age and older to be vaccinated against rabies.
The Health Department says to also caution children not to pet or play with wild or stray animals, report stray animal to animal control officials, and if bitten, wash the wound with soap and water and immediately seek medical attention.
There were 17 cases of rabies found in Houston County in all of last year.
