2 Dead in Covington County wreck

OPP, Al. (WTVY) -- Sunday, 29 October 2017 at 12:40 PM, Opp Police Department patrol units, Covington County Sheriff's Department units and Opp Fire Department units responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 331 and Al. Highway 299 (Opp Bypass).

Investigation by officers indicated that a red in color 2005 Honda CR-V EX was Northbound on U.S. Highway 331 where according to witnesses the Honda ran a red light at the intersection of Alabama Highway 299 striking a black in color Hyun Accent GLS 4D that was Westbound and going through the intersection.

A 79 year of age female resident of lakeLand, Florida that was a occupant in the Honda and a 61 year of age female resident of Red Level, Alabama that was a occupant of the Hyun died as a result of the injuries that they sustained in the crash.

Three other people sustained injuries in this crash. One victim was flown from the scene to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. The other two injured individuals were transported to the Mizell Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

This accident remains under investigation by the Opp Police Department
