DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - Former Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes is officially kicking off his campaign for Sheriff.
Hughes announced his retirement back in 2015 from his position as Assistant Director of Homeland Security for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Now ... After 30-years of service with three law enforcement agencies, he says his experience will make his return better than before.
"My plan the whole time was to come back and run for Sheriff. Being a Sheriff even a county with over 100,000 people it’s a very personal job, you have personal relationships with the people in your county and community.” Said Hughes
Hughes says, “The people of Houston County have been extremely good to me over the years and I want to continue to give back to them. I went to the state job and I got a lot of experience at a whole different level and I think I can bring that back now and be a better Sheriff than I was before."
The Republican primary election is set for June 5th 2018.
