Dothan (WTVY)-- Suspended Ashford City Clerk Amy Brunson is expected to enter a pretrial diversion program that would keep a theft charge off her criminal record.

Brunson was arrested in October for allegedly stealing over $600 in merchandise from Belk in Wiregrass Commons Mall.

She appeared in court Wednesday and told Houston County Circuit Judge Butch Binford she was prepared to plead guilty but didn’t have an attorney. Legal counsel was appointed and another hearing will be scheduled.

Pretrial diversion is available to many first time non-violent offenders. Prosecutors say Brunson is a candidate.

She was placed on leave as city clerk following her arrest.
