Newfoundland Braces for Tropical Storm Leslie

Canadian officials are warning of possible flooding as Tropical Storm Leslie barrels toward Newfoundland.

The storm is expected to make landfall this morning.

The Canadian Hurricane Centre is predicting at least 12 hours of intense rain over the northeastern province's hilly terrain. That could generate rapid runoffs. The center is warning of possible damage from toppled trees, flooded streets and downed power lines.

Forecasters say Leslie is gaining strength as it moves over warm waters, but they say its massive size may prevent it from reaching hurricane status. Storm watches are in effect for most of Newfoundland.
