Is Your Pet Hurricane Ready?

As the 2014 hurricane season approaches, panhandle organizations are teaming up to prepare Walton County pet owners for severe weather.

Organizers insist that pet owners have an evacuation plan. The most important thing citizens can do for their pets is to make sure their immunizations are current. Disaster supply kits that include water and food are key as well.

"We were surprised last year at the number of people that we spoke to that had pets and did not have a plan on how they were going to deal with their pet in a disaster or evacuation situation. Even more surprising was the number of people that said that they were not evacuating because of their pet," said Russell Beaty, the director of the Walton County emergency management.

A free event showing pet owners how to prepare for storms will take place on Saturday, June 21st from 9am TO 12pm at Alaqua Unleashed. For more information please contact the Alaqua Animal Refuge at 850-880-6399.
