The Greatest Amounts Of Rain And Snow Through Monday Can Be
Expected For The West Coast States And Into The Northern Rockies
As A Series Of Strong Frontal Systems Affect The Weather.

There Will Be Many Favorable Atmospheric Parameters For A Heavy
Precipitation Event, Including A Strong Jet Stream Aloft, Orographic Forcing, And A Moist Boundary Layer.

The Second System On Monday Is Forecast To Have More Of A Subtropical Connection With Southwesterly Flow. Rainfall Amounts On Westward Facing Slopes From Northern California To Washington State May Receive On The Order Of 3 To 5 Inches Of Rain During This Forecast Period, And Heavy Snow Is Likely For The Higher Elevations.

Some Of This Atmospheric Energy Is Expected To Traverse The Central And Northern Rockies, Where Light To Moderate Rain And Snow Are Expected.

The First Shortwave And Surface Trough To Affect The Pacific
Northwest During This Forecast Period Is Expected To Eject Out
Into The Central Plains And Upper Midwest By Sunday And Into
Monday. This Should Result In Developing Return Flow From The
Gulf Of Mexico Along With Moisture Transport From The Southern
Plains To The Upper Midwest, Creating An Environment Favorable For
Scattered Showers And Isolated Thunderstorms.

An Old Frontal Boundary Has Stalled Well Off The East Coast, And A
Wave Of Low Pressure Will Keep Unsettled Weather Near The Coast
From Northern Florida To The Carolinas. The Cyclonic Flow Between
This Feature And A Building Ridge Of High Pressure To The West
Will Result In Moist Easterly Flow Along The Southeast Coastline.
This Should Result In Periods Of Rain For The Coastal Areas Of The
Carolinas, With The Heaviest Rainfall Offshore.
