Forecasters say a winter storm that's made a mess in the Midwest and parts of the Mid-Atlantic could generate strong winds, more snow and the possibility of coastal flooding in New England on Thursday.
Forecasts of heavy snow in the nation's capital were just a little off. There was heavy snow in parts of Virginia, western Maryland, and Washington's outer suburbs. But the capital itself was largely spared of frozen precipitation. Many workers had the day off in anticipation for what was dubbed the "snowquester." It turned out to be a cold, windy and soggy day. They'll have to report for duty on Thursday.
Heavy wet snow is blamed for knocking out power to about 250,000 homes and businesses, mostly in Virginia and New Jersey.
