Early morning thunderstorms led to a wet day, followed by gusty winds, for residents of Alabama’s Pike County Sunday.

A large mass of rain and storms moved into southern Alabama in the pre-dawn hours, and spread across the state throughout the day. Even before sunrise, lighting lit up the skies from time to time in Pike County, and was followed by many hours of rain.

According to the National Weather Service, the Troy Municipal Airport in Pike County received over an inch of rain on Sunday, April 14th, 2013.

Later, extremely gusty winds blew down limbs, branches, pine cones and overturned light lawn furniture and signs throughout the area. A gust of 56 miles per hour was reported at the Troy Airport.
