NEAR TERM [Through Tonight]...
Continued quiescent conditions are expected to persist overnight as
a ridge of low level high pressure slowly shifts from over the area
to the Atlantic seaboard. A combination of IR and visible satellite,
TLH radar, and area webcams show smoke plumes around the area from
numerous controlled burns, and perhaps some small fires. As the
boundary layer decouples overnight (particularly over north Florida)
the inversion and light winds may allow smoke from fires that
continue to smolder to linger into the evening or overnight. This
would potentially cause some localized reductions in visibility,
particularly in parts of Franklin County where a couple of fires are
ongoing. For now we added some smoke wording to the forecast in
Franklin County and some portions of the adjacent nearshore waters
overnight, with a larger area of generic haze wording surrounding
that (as impacts from other fires around the area are less certain).
