Near Term Update

NEAR TERM [Through Tonight]...
A chilly night is expected tonight with the center of surface
high pressure shifting right over the area by 12-18z Wednesday.
The combination of clear skies and calm winds, along with the dry
air mass (PWAT on 12z TAE sounding was 0.25") will create a
favorable pattern for efficient radiational cooling. The latest
22.12z runs of the MAV and MET MOS show a consistent signal for
lows 32 degrees or cooler over the eastern half of our area, with
above freezing lows (for the most part) over the western half of
the area. Although the duration of temperatures at or below 32
degrees is expected to be very close to 2 degrees (locally-
defined criteria), we upgraded the Freeze Watch to a Freeze
Warning. The new warning was also expanded slightly into the
Apalachicola River area of the Florida Panhandle as these are
locations that typically get as cold as TLH, if not colder, on
favorable radiational cooling nights.
