Near Term Update

NEAR TERM [Through Tonight]...
Big changes today with a much colder airmass arriving behind a
strong low pressure system. Despite sunshine in many areas this
afternoon temperatures have steadily dropped into the 50s across the
forecast area. Locations in Southeast Alabama that had cloud cover
all day never got out of the 40s. The brisk northwest winds have
continued to slowly diminish, a sign that high pressure is moving
into the region.

Tonight...tranquil but chilly conditions are expected as high
pressure builds into the Mid South. With this ridge located still to
the northwest of the forecast area, winds will not completely go
calm. As a result, do not expect widespread freezing conditions.
However, the magnitude of cold advection will be strong enough to
generate a brief period of freezing conditions across our
northwestern zones. Tallahassee and areas to the east will be near
the freezing mark, but TLH often struggles to reach freezing in the
cool advective regimes, so trended the forecast guidance just a
couple of degrees warmer.
