NEAR TERM [Through Tonight]...
The KVAX and KJAX radars continue to show some isolated to
scattered light rain showers from south-central Georgia to the NE
FL and SE GA Atlantic coast. These are projected to continue into
the early evening hours, mainly in SC GA, in an area of weak
isentropic lift. Meanwhile, the surface pressure pattern continues
to show a ridge of surface high pressure east of the Appalachian
Mountains extending to the Florida Panhandle. That configuration
should stay relatively unchanged through the night, which will
reinforce northeasterly low level flow across the area. This is
expected to cause stratus to expand from northeast to southwest.
Increasing cloud cover should lead to slightly warmer minimum
temperatures - in the mid 50s - compared with lows on recent
nights. There is also the potential for some fog. MOS guidance has
been hinting at this over the last couple model cycles, and 06.15z
SREF probabilities of visibility less than 1 mile are as high as
80-90% across parts of the area. For now, some fog wording was
added to the forecast, but the possibility of some dense fog will
need to be monitored.
