In Noxubee County, a tornado destroyed some mobile homes, uprooted trees and overturned an 18-wheeler on Thursday (4/11.) There was damage in Shuqualak, Macon and Prairie Point.
At least one person was reported dead after a twister tore through Kemper County around noon.
There were also confirmed reports of damage to several buildings, as well as widespread power outages.
Kemper County is in east central Mississippi and is home to the controversial new Kemper County Coal Plant, owned by Mississippi Power.
In a statement released by the company regarding the weather, spokesman Jeff Shepard says, “The health and safety of our employees and partners is Mississippi Power’s top priority."
