Forecast: Alabama At High Risk for Christmas Twisters

The National Weather Service says Alabama is at high risk for tornadoes and damaging winds this Christmas Day.

Forecasters say a powerful storm system will move across the region Tuesday, bringing with it the strong possibility of severe storms.

The weather service says storms will begin in southwest Alabama and move northward through the day. Forecasters say powerful tornadoes, large hail and winds gusting to 80 mph are all possible.

The head of the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, Art Faulkner, says people need to keep an eye on the weather and adjust travel plans if they're going to be on the road.

Faulkner says the governor and local emergency officials have been briefed on the situation and are ready to respond if the weather turns dangerous.
