Dothan/Houston County Residents Storm Related Assistance

DOTHAN, AL - This morning local leaders, emergency response personnel and emergency managers met to develop plans for response to the possible events associated with heavy rainfall sustained overnight and continuing throughout today. According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee Florida, the Wiregrass Area will experience large amounts of rainfall with this system.

We have received 4-6 inches of rain already (depending on location) with another 4-6 inches expected prior to nightfall on Monday. “Residents in low lying areas or areas throughout our county that are prone to flooding, should be prepared to deal with high waters” said Clark Matthews, Dothan/Houston County EMA Director. According to Matthews evacuations are not expected at this point.

Dothan Fire Chief, Larry Williams, reminds citizens that “calls to 911 should be reserved for emergencies only.” 911 should only be used to report crimes in progress, fires or request emergency medical services. Weather or storm related information cannot be given by 911 Operators. Dothan/Houston County EMA has established HelpLines to field these questions and assist our citizens. Dothan / Houston County residents in need of storm related assistance can call 334-615-HELP to access available resources.
