Beach & Marine Forecast thru Feb 20

A strong cold front will pass over our Gulf of Mexico waters today with winds and seas increasing to solid advisory levels in its wake.

Gusts will remain on the high end of advisory criteria with a few gale force gusts possible.

Winds and seas will gradually begin to subside after midnight tonight...and fall to below advisory levels by dawn tomorrow.

Thereafter...a couple bouts of cautionary to advisory conditions are possible during the week as a few weak fronts pass across our waters.

Today
Northwest wind quickly increasing from west to east to 20 to 25 knots. Seas 4 to 6 feet west of Apalachicola...2 to 4 feet to the east...building to 5 to 7 feet nearshore...6 to 8 feet offshore...and 2 to 4 feet in Apalachee Bay. Protected becoming rough. A slight chance of rain.

Tonight
Northwest wind 20 to 25 knots becoming north 15 to 20 knots late. Seas 7 to 9 feet offshore...5 to 7 feet closer to shore...and 2 to 4 feet in Apalachee Bay...subsiding only slightly through the night. Protected waters gradually decreasing to a moderate chop.

Sunday
North wind 10 to 15 knots becoming light and variable late in the afternoon. Seas continuing to subside to 2 to 4 feet offshore...1 to 2 feet nearshore. Protected waters becoming smooth.

Sunday Night
Light and variable wind becoming southeast around 15 knots late. Seas 1 to 2 feet. Protected waters smooth increasing to a light chop late.

Monday
Southeast wind 15 to 20 knots except around 15 knots east of Apalachicola. Seas 2 to 4 feet...except 1 to 2 feet in Apalachee Bay. Protected waters a light to moderate chop.

Monday Night
South wind around 20 knots west of Apalachicola...15 to 20 knots to the east. Seas 4 to 6 feet...except 2 to 4 feet east of Apalachicola. Protected waters choppy. A chance of rain.

Tuesday
South wind 15 to 20 knots becoming southwest in the afternoon. Seas 3 to 5 feet. Protected waters a light to moderate chop. A chance of rain and isolated thunderstorms.

Tuesday Night
Southwest wind 10 to 15 knots veering to northeast 15 to 20 knots late. Seas 2 to 4 feet...except 1 to 2 feet in Apalachee Bay. Protected waters increasing to a light to moderate chop. A slight chance of rain through the night.

Wednesday
Northeast wind around 15 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet...except 1 to 2 feet in Apalachee Bay. Protected waters a light to moderate chop.
